Developing Visual Basic Applications

Description

Visual Basic 6 (VB6) is a Microsoft language first released in 1998 and was designed to be easy to learn and use. Its parent language, Visual Basic, was revolutionary and it made it possible to create applications in minutes that would usually take hours or even days in other languages.   VB6 was superseded when its designated successor - Visual Basic .NET - was released in early 2002 and Microsoft ceased to support VB6. Despite this, a vast amount of enterprises are still reliant on VB6 applications and this is stifling the progression of the applications to meet the changing demands of the business.

 

This course shows how an application can be easily developed or maintained using the Visual Studio development environment.  The most commonly used controls are then introduced to show how a user interface can easily be implemented.  Delegates are then introduced to the basic programming concepts such as Variables, Data types, procedures, functions and program control flow ie. Loops and conditional programming using the VB6 language. Once the fundamentals have been addresses, delegates are shown how to add graphics, deal with errors and exceptions and how to handle mouse and keyboard input. 

 

This 4 day course concludes by tackling more complex subjects such creating & calling dynamic link libraries (Dlls), and how to access databases.  Although VB6 is not a traditional object oriented (OO) language it does contain some support for the benefits OO brings, delegates are given an introduction to OO programming and shown how VB6 supports them.

Prerequisites

An understanding software development is recommended in order to attend this course, not essential.
